Blue and White Petit Fours for Cousin Manaf's Wedding Reception

My dear cousin Manaf got married last week, and yesterday was the reception on the goom's side. Mak commissioned me to make a hantaran cake for him. However, the hantaran cake had already been ordered from another baker, Pak Uteh (the groom's father) informed that they may need mini cakes as VIP gifts, hence the petit fours after some discussions with my cousin and Mak Uteh. Made 40 of these cute little cakes. Citrus Almond Medeira Cakes with fondant and gumpaste decor. Took 2.5 days to complete all 40 pieces. One of the most challenging projects I've done so far, believe it or not! My friend Anita, who is experienced in making petit fours had warned that it isn't as easy as it look, and that I should start off early. Following my guru's instruction, started the project on Thursday morning and finally completed it on Saturday evening! Luckily I had my aunt Makcik to help with the project, couldn't have finished on time if she didn't lend a hand. My sister Elin jumped in to help on the last day. I felt like hooting and cheering when we finished the last piece, such was the relief I felt after 2 whole days of non-stop fondant rolling... woohooo!!!
Manaf and Efa's reception was beautiful! As expected from my creative uncle and aunt. They were the "orang kuat" of every wedding in my own family. The petit fours were decorated beautifully with white lace ribbons and placed on the VIP table, it was a proud moment for me (couldn't help it! After all the hard work!).
To cousin Manaf and my "new cousin" Efa, on such a beautiful occasion, when your two souls unite, may your love and affection for each other never fade away. Have a wonderful married life! <3

Lightning McQueen Novelty Birthday Cake ordered by Sister Hezrin

I am 200% happy with the outcome of this cake! It was a rush job but it turned out better than I expected. I was in the middle of cousin Manaf's petit fours project when I made this cake. My assistant for the petit fours project, Makcik had to take time off for her Friday morning religious class. It was my opportunity to quickly make this cake, as we were having a surprise party for her and nephew Qaliff (they share the same birthdate) that very evening. Baked the brown velvet and chocolate cakes during the wee hours, left them to cool for a couple of hours before starting with the decor.
My sister Ain, the birthday boy's mom, requested for a red car cake. The only red car that came to my mind was Lightning McQueen. I've done a Lightning McQueen before, but this time was even more interesting, as I decided to carve Lightning McQueen out of the cake, and finished it with fondant details.
My wacky family suggested the funny expressions on the figurines, a frowning Wancik looking for my 2 year old cheeky nephew Qaliff. :))
Finished the whole thing before 2pm, just in time for my nephew Farhan to whisk the cake off to the party venue before Makcik arrived to continue with her task, thinking that I was so slow for completing only 4 pieces of the petit fours the whole morning! Lol!

November 2012 Newsletter

Dear GG Home Biz Friends,

Deepavali is just around the corner, we'd like to wish all our Hindu friends a very HAPPY DEEPAVALI, on this auspicious festival of lights may the glow of joys, prosperity and happiness illuminate your days
in the year ahead!

To our Muslim friends, we wish everyone a blessed Muharram, let us begin the year with a resolution to deepen our faith and increase our commitments towards Him in hope of becoming a better person. May Allah S.W.T bless you and your loved ones.

My posts on my blog are getting simpler and simpler... Like the Malay saying, I feel that "time is very jealous". Even if I'd like to write, inspiration just eludes me, for when I have what little free time, I'll be either too tired or selfishly keeping it for my "ME" time. I have decided to take breaks on intervals, to make time for family and other stuffs. Due to this I feel that I have to post this notice here because I've been getting many calls to order, only to be turned down due to my time constraints. Below are the dates that I will be closed for the next 2 months:

19-22 Nov 2012 (Mon-Thu)
9-16 Dec 2012 (Sun-Sat)
29 Dec 2012-1Jan 2013 (Sat-Tue)

Please be advised that I am fully booked until 19th of this month, my Saturdays have also been booked until 15th December. Do feel free to call me to check on my availability for dates other than mentioned above.

To avoid miscommunications on date bookings, I would require a 50% deposit for orders above RM50. Please call/text for my account number and advise after you have tranferred the deposit. I would appreciate if you could book your dates as early as possible (my advise, 3-4 weeks prior to pickup date).

As much as I'd like to take in your last minute orders, it's usually quite impossible to fit them in within the week. I bake part time after work in the evenings, depending on complexity of designs, I try to limit myself to finish one cake order per nite during weekdays, and two during weekends or off days. I've so far haven't disappointed any of GG Home Biz customers with last minute cancellation, I hope never to. Therefore I would require your understanding to book your slots early.

To my patrons, thank you for supporting GG Home Biz. We wouldn't be what we are now without your supports! As Obama's recent election slogan goes, "FORWARD"! :) Love ya'll!
