Disney Princess (Edible Image) Birthday Cake for Pn. Shida of Subang

Received an sms from Shida enquiring about a princess cake on Saturday. I was on my way out to the baker supply shop, just at the right time to confirm an order. Shida planned to order an upright doll cake for Monday, but it was too late, I had other orders on Sunday, therefore can only squeeze in a fairly simple whole cake with buttercream icing.

Baked the 9" choc moist cake this morning, left it to cool and decorated it in the evening. For the past month I've been in the mood to make borders out of buttercream flowers. For this cake I used swirled rosebuds in pink and purple. Finished it of with tiny green leaves. My daughter Nurin said it looked fit for a princess wedding. LoLs!

Fairy Garden Fondant Birthday Cake for Niece Lana

This is a custom fondant cake with figurine. 8" round red velvet with creamcheese filling, buttercream frosting and covered with fondant. The figurines and flowers were made of gumpaste. My custom fondant cake price starts from RM150, depending on the type of cake, the size and design. My retail price for this cake is RM250, price does not include cuppies.
This was my first ever fairy themed cake with actual fairy figurine. For inspiration, my daughter Nurin loaned me her pop-up fairy storybook from her book collection. Praise to Allah for Nurin's thoughtfulness.

Lana the Diva just turned 6 last week. For her birthday SHE ordered a fairy cake. I emphasize here the SHE, herself ordered it without her parents knowledge. She one day whispered to my ears that she would like her cake to be this and that. Fickle-minded-ness is one of Lana's "special" quality, first she wanted a mermaid cake with an underwater castle et cetera, at the last minute she changed her mind and told Maklong (that's me) that she wanted a fairy cake. Luckily I planned only to start making the mermaid figurine the next day. Or she would've had a mermaid sitting in the middle of the fairy garden. Takpek nolong eh!
The whole process took 3 days, til the final showdown. I work during the day, and bake part time in the evenings. So I "weaved" in between baking and decorating cakes (other customers' orders) during those 3 days, with gumpaste figurine making, the flowers and the bugs and finally baking the cake, frosting and assembling.
Making a gumpaste fairy I tell you, is not an easy feat. It took me 2 whole hours just to do the fairy alone! That must be the first to be done so it could harden properly before being assembled on the cake. Next came the flowers, I made them in a variety of shapes and matching colours. Bibik helped with the leaves and little filler flowers.
Finally on the day of the party I baked the RV cake (or rather brown velvet, I omitted the red colouring as my family gerun tengok the cake's crimson shade), covered it with pink fondant and began the fun part, assembly! I also made 16 black forest cuppies to be arranged around the main cake. With Bibik's help, I completed the cake and arrived at the party right before the maternal grandparents' arrival. The rest of the clan had already began feasting. Found the birthday girl counting her presents, teased her that I made a Thomas cake instead of Fairy cake, which brought her close to tears (kikiki... I just love to tease my anak-anak sedara, Lana is the most fun to tease as she's such a joyah @ smartmouth)! You can almost feel the relief she must've felt when she finally saw the cake! LoLs! All in all, I am extremely happy with the final result. It was not only Lana's dream which came true that day, it had been my wish too as a cake decorator, to make a fairy cake in fondant. I'm truly happy that it turned out more than I expected, definitely worth all the effort!

Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Topping Ordered by Pn Asmafadila

An old friend from my previous office, Asma  pm'ed me about one week ago to order this RV cake for her dad. Asma is a warm and outgoing friend, we used to have really funny and animated chats everyday on our way back to KL from our office in Shah Alam. She was one of those friends that I regretted leaving when I resigned. We kept in touch from time to time, but Facebook really brought us back together. Her posts are always enjoyable to read, always with a touch of humour.
Back to the cake! Baked the cake the night before pickup date, let it cool overnight in the fridge and frosted it the next day. We met at a restaurant where As and hubby dined in Melawati. Managed a quick chat in front of the entrance and quickly parted, as I still had lots to do for niece Lana's fairy themed cake.
I hope her Abah enjoyed the cake, as I had enjoyed making it. Although it's one week after the actual Father's Day, it's the thought that counts. She's such a sweet daddy's girl!

Barney Novelty Number One Birthday Cake for En. Azizon Othman

This is exactly why I love to do kids birthday cakes. I get to do fun decorations and cute figurines! My boss, Tuan Azizon rang me last Friday to engage my services to do a birthday cake for his one year old. My boss is quite flexible, as long as it's a number one shaped, choc and vanilla flavoured (2 layer with different flavour), the rest was up to me. I decided to use buttercream as the frosting.

I recently came across the Barney edible images at my local baker's supply shop, I thought they'd be adorable on a baby's cake. My daughter Nurin used to adore Barney when she was younger. Barney always bring back those fond memories of her as a toddler. And I've been wanting to make this fondant baby figurine, so I decided to add this decor to the cake FOC, since the idea came after I quoted Tuan Azizon. By using Barney's signature colours purple and green as the theme, I fashioned a sitting baby on the number one cake. I'm just pleased with the finished cake, the baby acts as the focal point. Since the baby is just one year old, it was the older siblings who were more excited about the cake. I hope they'll be as much surprised as the baby to see the cake as their father had hoped. Happy first birthday li'l Dinie!

Chocolate Chip Brownies for Yong of Selayang

My SIL's cousin Yong who's an event organizer ordered these brownies on Friday for Saturday pickup. I had planned to go back to my parent's home in Serendah early Saturday morning, mentioned it to Yong that she'll have to pickup the goodies very early on Saturday. Yong didn't mind coming later that night to fetch the brownies (what a darling!), as I could only make them after work. Fortunately I didn't have any orders that night. With the help of superbibik, I finished all 3 large trays (to make 100pcs) by 10.30pm dateline as promised. Yong came at 11.30pm after an event at a nearby venue. Yong was a recurring customer, but I haven't the opportunity to meet her. It was a pleasure to finally meet and chat the very friendly Yong that evening. Great doing business with you, Yong!

Carrot Raisin Muffins for Pn. Emmie Sharmila

Love these muffins! One of our earliest products. It's less sweet, soft and fragrant. The raisins really compliment the carrot's lemak manis.

Old pal Sharmila ordered 50 of these muffins along with the Disney Princesses birthday cake for Princess Nadzirah birthday. Half of them were for Nadzirah's kindie friends, and the balance to bring home for the family. Nadzirah goes to the same school as my son Imran, their principal Ms. Nora informed that all the children were given one whole muffin each and they finished them. They simply love the muffins to bits! Ahhh... the joy that I felt when I heard the news...

Ben10 (Piping Jelly Drawing) Cake for Pn Diana of Keramat

Emergency order by Pn Diana of AU2. Vanilla butter cake with buttercream icing and piping jelly drawing. Pretty mum Diana ordered this Ben10 cake for her daughter's birthday (to my surprise! I had to double confirm Wawa ke Wawan? Hihi...). Since it was a last minute order, and the edible image was unavailable because baker supply shop dah tutup, the only option was to draw with piping jelly. I finally got to meet Diana when she dropped by to pickup the cake. The last time she came I had an appointment away from home, I left her Dora cake in the safe hands of my superbibik. It was nice to finally meet her. Hope little Wawa liked her specially hand drawn Ben10 cake!

Silver and White Fondant Hantaran Nikah Cuppies for Cik Wanie Zaaba

Vanilla cupcake with buttercream filling and fondant decor. New friend Wanie ordered these silver and white mini cuppies for her cousin's hantaran nikah. I used storebought white roses and painted non-toxic edible silver paint on the edges. I prefer to use storebought roses when the weather's wet as handmade ones are unpredictable in humid condition. There's an incident with the roses. At the last minute I realized that my roses were not enough, rushed to the store but it was closed (I forgot it's Agong's birthday). Frantically I went home and made seven white fondant roses (fortunately it was a hot Saturday!), and finished the decor, all in one hour to meet the promised dateline. Phewww... Couldn't tell the difference between the handmade and storebought flowers! To add some soft touches, I added some satin and organza silver ribbons. I simply love the finished result, it all worked out as planned and more... I hope Wanie and her cousin love the cuppies as much as I do!
